After listening to his radio show for years, I bought the book. I thought I would get a great understanding of the one page money map he always talks about. On Kindle, the picture of the one page money map is blurred; you can’t even see it. His explanation around it is poorly written. This book is more of an advertisement for his advising company than what it is educational. Not worth it.
This book is an eye opener. There are many ways to secure your future and to make a better life for yourself and your family. This book will guide you to achieve that security and allow you to enjoy your “golden yearsâ€. The Money Map has helped me get on track with my families’ finances. Joel’s advice and strategies are written in a way that are easy to understand and actionable. The knowledge I have received from this book has given me the confidence I needed that I can set things up to have the retirement that I deserve.
Joel does a great job reviewing the basics of financial investments, and uncovering all the common fees that destroy most investor's misguided attempts to save for their future. After reviewing my notes, I believe I can ask the right questions and enter a meaningful conversation with potential advisors and others. Great read!
I am about ¾ of the way through this book and have learned a few things that are very valuable already. I am already very informed about retirement and investment strategies, but I saw myself in the stories and examples that the book shared. This gave me a perspective to things that I wasn’t seeing currently. I can tell this book was written by somebody who has a lot of experience not only in the financial world, but in working with people to solve complex problems.
This book is filled with common sense and easy to understand stuff. At first I thought the ideas were too simple, but as I completed the book the total package came together in a way I had much better direction on what I need to do with my portfolio.
What this book has really done for me is prod me to be more proactive in managing my retirement funds and gave me some insight into what type of advisor I need to help me not only get to retirement, but through retirement.
