This book is a must-read for anyone planning to go into business as a consultant or solopreneur providing business services like coaching and training. The author does a great job of answering all the questions you won't think of asking (until it's too late!). He also flags the common traps that first-timers fall into.I think this book would have saved me a lot of time and money if it had been available when I opened my business. It specifies which resources to enlist (and which to skip), provides the basics on how to set your fees and how to make your first sales, and how to grow at a sustainable rate. Best of all, every chapter has a simple checklist so you won't miss any of the truly important steps in getting started.
This book is a step-by-step guide to succeed as a consultant. If you're starting out in your business, you will find the steps easy to follow and implement. However, I believe this is not only a perfect book for someone who's starting a consulting business. I've run my own business for many years, and reading this book gave me great ideas about how to improve profitability and run my business more efficiently. Five stars!
When I started my road as a professional consultant, leaving the employment hamster-wheel, this book assisted me greatly in understanding the aspects that are critical to success.As a consultant, you run the whole show - attracting customers, doing presales, closing the deals, delivering, etc.The Consulting Success book takes you through all these necessary steps that no one ever teaches you. For me, this turned out into a boon in understanding how to position my business and create my proposals for potential customers.
I am just starting my own consulting company and this book is inspiring and full of practical and actionable advice. I love the check sheets at the end of each chapter. Michael provides his and others real life examples that clarify in very interesting ways the principles he is teaching. Well done and thank you!
Before Michael's book was available, I went back to listen to two years of his podcasts where he interviewed other consultants and what made them successful. I would say that Michael successfully collated his own successful practices with those of his clients and associates to put into this book. While I would recommend listening to or reading whatever Michael has produced, the book is fundamentally the summary of all that information and can be read in a short time. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to be or already is a consultant.
I have read many books on consulting and starting businesses. This book presents the essential information that is needed. Highly recommend!
